Case Study · PR Agency / Organizational Capability / Executive Communication
In public relations, language shapes how briefs are interpreted, ideas are pitched, reputations are represented and stakeholders respond. Across more than nine years, remarkable. built a coordinated English-development and international communication capability serving Sunny Side Up and selected group businesses—from agency teams to senior leadership.
Sunny Side Up operates at the intersection of public relations, campaigns, events and marketing communications. From June 2013 to August 2022, remarkable. served as its sole contracted corporate English-training provider, extended learning support to professionals in selected group companies—including Japanese-language instruction for ENGAWA staff—and undertook business-critical English communication assignments.
The engagement crossed organizational and commercial boundaries: individualized development for employees; applied programs for account-facing teams; English-language corporate and investor-facing materials; competitive international proposals; and executive and industry-conference speech support. A recruited and supervised instructor team extended delivery under the principal’s direction. The common foundation was working knowledge of the group’s businesses, agency positioning and stakeholder relationships.
Based on contemporaneous learning archives, program plans and completed communication assignments, this case illustrates a relationship that developed with the agency’s operational needs.

The business context: language as part of the agency’s value proposition
PR agencies do more than transmit information. They frame complex propositions for different stakeholder groups, establish relevance, reconcile competing expectations and turn ideas into narratives that clients and audiences can act upon. In international settings, those disciplines depend on language that preserves strategic intent while making the message intelligible outside its original market.
At Sunny Side Up, communication requirements existed on several levels. An early-career employee might need fluency in routine client exchanges. An account professional might need to position a campaign concept, establish credibility in a pitch or manage an unscripted question. One PR professional, despite extensive English-language educational experience, specifically sought help conducting PR business in English. The distinction was consequential: general-language proficiency is not the same as the ability to perform specialized professional work in another language.
The remit also extended beyond the core agency. Centrally coordinated learning supported professionals in Wise Integration (sales promotion and production), Kumnamu Entertainment (entertainment and talent management), Scramble (influencer-led marketing), ENGAWA (international brand development) and Sunny Side Up Career (talent advisory). At ENGAWA, remarkable. additionally provided Japanese-language training for international staff, focused on communication within a Japanese workplace. These companies brought different terminology, workflows and external relationships. Corporate materials, meanwhile, needed to explain a wider portfolio that also included Flypan’s bills hospitality operations.
The design problem was therefore organizational as well as linguistic: how to provide coherent, accessible development across different businesses while retaining the contextual depth required for international pitches, PR assignments and executive messaging.

The engagement: linking talent development with live communication demands
Work-embedded learning across a diversified group
Sunny Side Up’s 「英語ペラペラ」制度 was an employee English-development benefit already documented in company materials by 2015 and described in its public benefits information. remarkable. designed and delivered individualized development within this framework, including for professionals from selected group companies. Japanese-language training for ENGAWA’s international staff, aimed at effective communication in a Japanese workplace, formed an additional, distinct part of the support. Its principal recruited, briefed and supervised a team of at least two additional instructors, coordinating delivery, pedagogical continuity and responses to assignment-specific needs.
Learning was differentiated by proficiency, career stage, sector, role and immediate communication demands. For some, the priority was foundational listening, conversational automaticity and speaking confidence; for others, it was international supplier correspondence, client meetings, campaign presentations, persuasive explanation or professional tone. Individual learning records informed subsequent sessions and formative feedback across the instructor team.
Experiential development for international PR and client service
The 2017–18 and 2018–19 Global Communications Program cohorts addressed tasks recognizable to a PR account team: articulating an agency proposition, presenting campaign ideas, building professional networks, negotiating expectations and responding to client questions. Participants developed narratives about actual client-acquisition experience, practiced time-constrained pitches and examined campaign concepts through structured dialogue.
In June 2019, remarkable. also arranged and facilitated a live discussion with a senior Asia-Pacific marketing-effectiveness executive. The guest interaction gave managerial-level participants an opportunity to engage with an international industry professional, practice spontaneous questioning and compare perspectives on marketing and PR in Japan. Rehearsals and formative feedback were complemented by a structured presentation-assessment rubric used in the earlier cohort. Together, these methods emphasized transfer to professional situations rather than language accuracy alone.
Executive messaging and international industry representation
Separate bilingual drafts document English speech and introduction support for Sunny Side Up’s founder and then-President. In January 2022, remarkable. also completed an English speech review requested for an international public-relations conference in the Philippines. Both types of assignment placed a premium on message discipline, rhetorical progression and an appropriate frame for an audience beyond Japan.
The work called for executive-level editorial judgment—clarifying the message hierarchy, preserving the speaker’s authentic register and making organization-specific references intelligible across cultures. Longstanding familiarity with the agency’s strategic positioning and PR vocabulary informed that editorial counsel.
Transcreating the group’s corporate narrative for international audiences
In 2015, remarkable. worked on English-language corporate website and company-information content, including investor-facing wording, site navigation and descriptions spanning 12 service categories. The portfolio ranged across PR, event production, sports marketing, digital communications and related businesses. During a subsequent website renewal, the corporate PR function also requested counsel on the English-language agency message, positioning and brand voice. An overseas-agency presentation supported in 2018 additionally explained the wider group portfolio, including Wise Integration and Flypan’s bills business.
For a diversified communications group, service taxonomy and corporate narrative shape how a prospective overseas client interprets the offer. Effective transcreation required attention to proposition clarity, message hierarchy, terminology, brand distinctiveness and the distinctions between service lines—not a literal transfer of Japanese sentences into English.
Strategic editorial counsel for pitches, international partners and the press
In one 2015 multinational PR-agency selection, Sunny Side Up progressed through RFI and RFP stages to a client presentation and subsequent budget discussions. At the agency’s request, remarkable. examined the brief, advised on the buyer’s objectives and international campaign context, and contributed to the English proposal materials. The work combined new-business literacy, audience analysis and narrative strategy with linguistic precision.
On a separate consumer-technology PR pitch, advice addressed how English phrasing might unintentionally alter a brand’s health-and-wellness positioning and how the agency should characterize influential campaign participants. The presentation lead confirmed revisions in response. Other assignments covered an international food/lifestyle proposal, English-language press and event communications for a major international sporting event, public-facing spokesperson remarks for a social-advocacy press conference and preparation of an agency introduction for an overseas PR partner.
Selected international pitches supported during the relationship subsequently converted into signed client business. remarkable.’s contribution lay in the quality of the agency’s communication: testing proposition clarity, strengthening argument structure and protecting the intended brand narrative. The through-line was message integrity under commercial and reputational pressure—not simply proofreading English.
Engagement Development
An evolving mandate, anchored by organizational familiarity
From group employee development to international agency positioning
Individual learning began in June 2013, reaching the core agency and selected affiliates. The remit expanded to corporate website language, consumer-brand proposals, event communications and a multinational agency-selection process.
Instructor-team delivery and experiential professional learning
Principal-led design and a recruited instructor team supported multiple business units. Two Global Communications Program cohorts combined scenario work, presentation assessment and, in 2019, facilitated dialogue with a senior international marketing executive. Separate assignments included founder speeches and overseas partner preparation.
Adaptive delivery and continued international representation
Individualized learning continued remotely as working practices changed, alongside assignments such as the 2022 international PR-conference speech review. The retained program archive extends through August 2022.
Organizational value: capability, consistency and communication readiness
The partnership connected an enduring people-development program with consequential agency communication outputs. Its significance lies in the breadth of application across a diversified corporate group: professionals developed at different levels, account teams rehearsed international interactions, market-facing language was refined and senior leadership received tailored editorial support.
Organizational Outcomes
Three contributions to the agency’s operating capability
People & Capability
Cross-company development with continuity
Individual English-learning pathways reached the core agency and five selected group businesses, complemented by Japanese-language training for ENGAWA staff. Two applied cohorts, facilitated industry-expert dialogue and a principal-managed instructor team supported differentiated roles and learning needs. Participants reported greater awareness of international presentation practice and, for some, more ease in overseas-client interaction.
Positioning & New Business
Market-facing narratives in commercial use
Corporate content spanning 12 service categories received audience-centered editorial attention. Competitive proposals progressed through substantive buyer review, and selected supported pitches subsequently became signed client engagements. remarkable. contributed strategic messaging and English editorial counsel within those wider agency efforts.
Leadership & Reputation
Judgment at high-visibility moments
Founder-level speeches, a 2022 international PR-conference address, an overseas partner briefing and press/event materials drew on an adviser familiar with the group’s services and voice. Editorial support connected persuasive clarity with executive presence and reputational sensitivity.
Enduring contribution: A single, accountable relationship joined cross-company talent development, practitioner-led instruction and commercially relevant external communication—grounded in the group’s businesses, people and brand.
For a communication-led business, that combination matters. It helps make professional learning relevant to the work, supports consistent articulation of the agency’s offer, and connects the development of individual contributors with the communication expectations placed on leadership.
Client & Participant Perspectives
A partnership valued beyond the training room
“Over more than nine years, remarkable. became a trusted partner in how we sustained and developed English communication capability across our organization. The support was individualized, consistent and closely connected to the work our people were doing. They coordinated a team of instructors, understood the demands of our PR business, and were able to advise on international proposals, presentations and sensitive external messaging when the stakes were higher. This was valuable well beyond employee satisfaction with training. It supported the professionalism of our client-facing communication, the confidence of our teams and the continuity of an important organizational capability.”

Contemporaneous Program Feedback
Anonymous workshop responses described stronger awareness of international presentation conventions and, for some participants, greater ease in overseas-client communication. Program coordination correspondence also reflected positive motivation and satisfaction among learners. These perspectives complement the documented training provision and completed business-facing assignments.
The operating advantage: context carried across assignments
The defining feature was contextual integration across companies and assignments. Reviewing group service descriptions informed the vocabulary used in coaching. Exposure to client pitches made workshops more realistic. Professional dialogue with an external industry executive introduced another perspective on cross-cultural practice. Knowledge of the group’s history and positioning helped shape leadership-facing English. Each stream enriched the practical understanding behind the others.
That continuity is valuable to organizations managing different communication needs at once. A designated partner can move from learner diagnostics to presentation coaching, from narrative editing to an urgent executive assignment, with less duplication of briefing and a more coherent sense of the organization’s voice.
The operating model combined principal-led learning architecture and senior editorial judgment with a recruited, managed instructor team. It was designed around the client’s communication ecosystem, not the boundary of a course catalogue, a single teacher’s schedule or a generic language-proficiency target.
